Crab Meat Dip

Image
A treasured family recipe that we savor on special occasions and at holiday time. I think that my mother found this recipe perhaps in a newspaper many years ago and we always enjoyed this as a special treat during the holidays. It's a very simple recipe but it tastes decadent and rich and I must admit I find this dip very addictive. Read more »

The Best & Most Popular Recipes of 2015

Image
What a year it has been! This has been a good year for me and for Cooking On A Budget. August marked the fifth year of blogging.  Back in the spring I became part of the Pollinate Media Group and then in August joined up with the Social Fabric Network. This has given me an opportunity to do some sponsored posts and I have completed three so far: Walmart Edwards Frozen Pies , JELL-O Pumpkin Spiced Filled Pumpkin Cake and most recently, Mexican Nacho Dip & Burrito Recipe . This was something else for me to learn and I've loved it; it's both challenging and fun and I can't wait for my next assignment. In addition to that, a few weeks ago I became a co-host for the Let's Get Real Link Party that goes live every Thursday at 5 p.m. EST. Read more »

General Tsao Chicken & Vegetables

Image
Thanks to the wonderful sauce, this General Tsao Chicken and Vegetables was absolutely delicious! The sauce makes the dish. While I don't generally advocate jar sauces, this House of Tsang General Tsao Stir-Fry Sauce is really good. It should be readily available in the international aisle of your grocery store and I know that it is available too at Target and Walmart stores which are all over the country. The sauce is a combination of spicy ginger, with bright citrus flavors and teriyaki sauce. We really were impressed with the overall flavor of this dinner and I believe you are going to love it also. Anzac Biscuits

Image
Anzac Biscuits ~ the cookies New Zealanders and Australians made to send to the front lines during war time. I was given Pic-Nic's blog and asked to choose a cookie recipe from there. My choice was easy. Nicole hails from New Zealand. She is a Neuroscientist who has juggled getting her masters degree and maintaining a food blog. This recipe is her ode to those who served in New Zealand's army and I thought this recipe would be a fitting one to represent her and where she comes from. Nicole's recipe is a modern day take on the original cookie sent to the front line in war time and I am happy to be part of the Freaky Friday Virtual Cookie Exchange and making Nicole's recipe. In case you are wondering, "Freaky Friday" is where a group of bloggers come together, are assigned a blog and asked to pick a recipe to make. It's been fun and I am glad to be part of it. The last one we did was back in October and for that I made Tater Tot Casserole . Now for this sim

Weeknight Stir-Fry Rice and Vegetables

Image
Plan ahead, shop smart and save money while enjoying easy weeknight suppers like this Weeknight Stir-Fry Rice and Vegetables. The holidays are hectic enough and all too often we rely on take-out food (which can be very costly), fast food restaurants (where the food is outrageously high in calories) or frozen food (which is very high in sodium). It doesn't have to be that way. With a little planning before you grocery shop on the weekend you can enjoy quick and easy meals during the week ~ no matter what is going on. Read more »

Chicken Piccata

Image
An absolutely lovely dinner that is neither complicated or complex. Simple ingredients combined to make a delicious main course meal for family or guests. I was at my niece's baby shower last weekend and the luncheon I chose was Chicken Piccata. It was delicious and I knew right then and there I would be making it at home. I looked up various recipes and ended up tweaking a Martha Stewart recipe to fit our tastes. It is not too far off, but it combines the flavors I tasted in the dish last Saturday and the common ingredients found in every chicken piccata recipe. Hope you will like it too and give it a go.
